Where speleobop with names like Starcadaver cavort endlessly among the ruins...
Welcome to Battery Farnsworth, the bain of my existance. Half of it collapsed a couple of winters ago, but all of the cement
structures are still intact. Unfortunately what appears to be an easy in, easy out, is thwarted by the constant attention of the
United States Coastguard, located just a few feet away. Add to this that while the landside of the battery is owned by the
University of New Hampshire, singularly unintimidating and unimpressive, the sea side of the battery is owned by the coastguard,
meaning that one step in the wrong direction and you're trespassing on an active gov't base, as we discovered when we
attempted to access the bunker from the beach side. After a very long, tedious, and in some cases trying climb up the cliff from
the beach below, we came within feet of the open backside of the bunker, only to be suddenly shouted at "Hey you! You're on
government property! Hey!!!" followed by a man in uniform charging at us. We went back down the cliff in a hurry. So. Battery
Farnsworth. We at Visceral Axis know that we should gather up the balls to take on the US military, as well as the police, and
one day we will. After all...what's the worst that can happen?
Easy in, right? A fence
even I can jump in a
moment. But just try
waiting for an
opportunity. Because just
a few feet away....
The manned main gate
for the United States
Coastguard. What you
can't see from this angle
is the manned
observation tower, that
looks down into the
battery. And if nobody at
the gate happens to notice
you hopping the fence,
you still have to deal
with....
These guys. Although
they appear tiny in this
picture, the uniforms and
badges are very large to
the naked eye. Coast
guard and police, in their
little patrol boats and
dingeys. Eesh.
